All the essentials, plus a few in-office musts you didn't know you needed.

It may feel like you've finally adjusted to working from home, but many companies are bringing employees back to work in the office. The transition from fully remote work back to something that resembles a pre-pandemic work environment can be overwhelming, stressful, and scary for a variety of reasons. Whether you've already been back in the office but are still adjusting, or you're gearing up to return in the near future, Woman's Day Editor-in-Chief and author of Your Fully Charged Life, Meaghan Murphy, is sharing her picks for the best back-to-office essentials to help ease the transition.

Many of us are learning to adapt to a hybrid work schedule, working from home some days and commuting into the office part of the week. Establishing new routines, getting back into the swing of a commute, and adjusting to more time away from home won't become second nature right away. But going in prepared with must-haves — like comfortable work shoes, a stylish work bag that can hold your laptop, chargers, and snacks, and even sentimental reminders of home to keep at your desk — can go a long way in making you feel more confident to take on the work day. Here are 20 office must-haves recommended by Murphy and the Woman's Day team that will have you feeling like a professional rockstar in no time.

We lived in slippers for two years and joked we forgot how to tie our shoes, let alone wear heels, so these comfy, yet stylish kicks are a must. They look like a boot, but feel like a sneaker. You can rock them with a dress or skirt!

These are built with comfort technology. They have diamond flex soles and memory foam in the footbed so they’re super supportive. We love them in marigold, which is a super popular color right now and also surprisingly versatile.

Aerosoles is a brand known for their comfortable shoes, and this quilted update to their iconic ballet flats comes in a ton of different colors and fabrics, including this classic pink leather.

Baby steps: I still don’t want to tie things! These slip right on and the fact that they’re linen with a pop of metallic sparkle trim makes them fashun!

The tag line for this brand is “insanely comfortable shoes” and they are! More of a splurge than the above shoes, but Rothy's are an editor go-to—they’re so stinking cute AND make your feet happy. My favorite style is The Point in Desert Cat. I think a leopard is surprisingly neutral and makes an outfit meow. They come in 15 colors, too!

Most of us hadn’t buttoned anything in two years, so we needed to ease back into pants. These have the ease and comfort of leggings, but look polished for the office. The Los Angeles brand makes what I like to call “fake out pants.” They’re all stretchy and comfy but have “pant” details like pin tucks and buttons with allll the stretch!

The same LA brand makes a knit trouser that has a tie front for added stretch and comfort. These pants are also extremely versatile, looking super chic with a blouse and heels or a bit more relaxed with your go-to sneaks.

Athleta is a wildly popular go-to for comfort fashion. They make a sustainable “featherweight stretch” pant that’s silky sleek and made from recycled polyester. These will feel weightless as you glide through the office doors on your first day.

Not something you immediately think of from Athleta, but they crush it with comfy work clothes. The Urbanite Dress is a favorite. It comes in sizes up to 3X and it’s selling like hot cakes. Athleta said they have a 95% uptick in search on the site right now, showing people are ready to get dressed again. Hot tip: You can change out the belt to something woven or leather to elevate the look even more.

My whole team had dead iPhones by the end of day one back in the office. This portable charger saved the day. It' a magnetic wireless portable charger that comes in fun colors and is so sleek and slim that it easily snaps in place on your phone. The stand is also very handy for taking a Zoom meeting. A little pricier, but it’s the #1 mobile charging brand and consistently outperforms competitors.

I started making a pot of coffee at home during the pandemic and I had sticker shock over the jacked up cost of java when I bought a cup on my first day back. Plus, I just missed my perfect home brew. That said, I needed a travel mug STAT. The Zojirushi is a favorite that won’t leak or spill and it keeps your coffee hot, hot, hot. It also has a 5-year warranty.

This one from Contigo is also spill-proof and vacuum-insulated AND dishwasher safe, which is a plus. On the downside, there aren't any fun colors available.

Many of us have hybrid schedules so we’re toting around our computers and ALL THE THINGS. My back hurt week one! I had to go backpack shopping and this option from Dagne Dover is THE BEST. I love it because the laptop sleeve fits most 13” laptops and it comes with a shoe bag and dust bag in case you need to stash heels for a meeting. Plus, the backpack is made from water resistant neoprene and comes in fun colors, plus black and grey. It’s $185, but any quality bag that holds a laptop is going to be a bit pricier.

I was starving by 11am on my first day back — I missed being 2 feet away from my pantry and fridge. These reusable snack pouches from (re)zip are the best. You can buy a 5-piece starter kit for $19.99 or go for a a 2-piece set at $7.99. I also use mine for cords, beauty products, etc. in my bag.

When did lunch get so expensive?! The Baldwin Boxer from Corkcicle keeps everything fresh and cold, but looks like a purse — which makes it an attractive reason to pack your own lunch.

This is another one of my all-time favorite lunch bags that keeps everything cold for hours. PackIt uses patented EcoFreeze™ technology that lets you skip the freezer packs and add more snacks to your lung bag. It's a win-win!

I also forgot my earbuds on day one and had to sit on the train for AN HOUR in silence. These are a great wireless earbud from the House of Marley (created in collaboration with the Marley family to carry on Bob’s legacy and love for music and the planet). It’s a socially conscious company all about sustainability and giving back. A portion of all proceeds support global reforestation through Project Marley. These were just launched, are killer quality, and super chic. For a more budget-friendly option, the House of Marley Champion Earbuds are just $80.

I love a mantra or an affirmation. When I returned to office, I treated myself to a personalized bracelet in gold with the word YAY on it. The accessory was an all-day reminder to look for the YAY even when I felt overwhelmed and anxious. Tiny Tags is a trusted mom-owned brand. Their bracelets can be customized with a word that’s special to you or you can choose from a motivational list including: thrive, hope, love, and mama in sterling silver or gold.

This seems so simple and obvious, but my officemate who is the editor of Prevention has an old school desk calendar with photos of her son and hubs — I found myself ahhhhing over the pics. Then I decided to make one for myself! Minted does a great job offering a variety of different layout options, including this mock photo-strip 2022 calendar.
