Set to premiere on HBO Max on July 28, the creators of Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin have only dropped a few details about the spin-off.

Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is the latest spin-off of the popular teen drama Pretty Little Liars. Continuing on from Pretty Little Liars' finale, the spin-off follows a new generation of Liars to take on A. However, in Original Sin, the stakes are higher than ever. Set to premiere on HBO Max on July 28, only a few details about the spin-off have been released.

Showrunners have teased that Pretty Little Liars: Original Sin is more modern and has more horror elements than the original show. Fans hope the latest spin-off will have the same edge-of-your-seat thrill as its predecessor.

Contrary to what some believe, Original Sin won't occur in Rosewood, Pennsylvania. Instead, this new story takes place in Millwood, Pennsylvania, which is a few miles from Rosewood. As a result, Original Sin almost entirely separates itself from the original Pretty Little Liars world.

So far, Rosewood's only appearance is in a photo of a student, who's wearing a Rosewood High Sharks jacket at what seems to be a carnival in Millwood. Seeing as the towns are close to one another, it would make sense for the students to cross paths at school sporting events or other competitions.

The next generation to take on A are an interesting group of girls. Chandler Kinney plays Tabby Hawthorne, a horror fanatic who aspires to create films. Maia Reficco plays Noa Olivar, an up-and-coming track star who served a stint in juvenile detention over the summer. Zaria plays Faran Bryant, a talented ballerina who faces racism and microaggression in her industry.

Malia Pyles plays Minnie "Mouse" Honrada, an internet-obsessed teen who's dealing with trauma. Mallory Bechtel plays Karen Beasley, the Alison-esque queen bee who bullies the other girls. Finally, Bailee Madison plays Imogen Adams, a pregnant teen described as a "true survivor" and a "final girl," which hints at a dark past.

The latest trailer begins with Imogen describing a scary house, which is across the street from the cemetery where she and her mother live. Imogen and her mother play with a Ouija board before Imogen finds a terrifying sight at the end of her hallway. The camera then cuts to show that "A" is written on the wall with what looks like blood.

Viewers don't know exactly what happens to Imogen and her mother, but it's clear that her house is full of dark and twisted secrets. As a result, Imogen is tough and able to hold her own against the mysterious threat, which shouldn't bode well for A.

In the latest trailer, Karen is shown bullying Imogen for being pregnant and "tragic." In retaliation, Imogen wins Spirit Queen at the school dance to spite the popular but mean girl.

As Imogen accepts her crown, Karen hides in the bleachers, holding a bucket of blood or red paint. The trailer implies that she's going to dump it over Imogen in a horror movie or Carrie-inspired moment. However, A sneaks up behind Karen and the new Liars get an ominous text that states: "One down. Five to go." Much like A from the original Pretty Little Liars, this villain is out for blood and aims to take all five Liars down.

Pretty Little Liars has its disturbing and scary moments, but the tone is lighter and more fun overall because it ran on ABC Family. However, Original Sin will be streaming on HBO Max, giving the show runners the freedom to make it as dark as they want. The spin-off fits into the horror genre, which is already established by the creepy imagery in the teaser trailer.

A's lair contains Noa's police report, a missing person flyer for Minnie, and nonconsensual pictures of the girls. A then cuts the head off Imogen's portrait and nails ballet slippers onto Faran's photo. This A is much more violent and aggressive than the previous A, and fans look forward to seeing the story grow darker and scarier.

Pretty Little Liars's As all have a similar look: black hoodies, black pants, and black gloves. Later, they wear red coats, blonde wigs, and pictures of Alison's face as masks. Rosewood's A hid in the shadows, but Millwood's A has a much more sinister appearance and appears to be much more confident in public.

In the trailer, A is shown wearing a scary Halloween mask with long, stringy hair. A also wears a gray jumpsuit that could be a mechanic's uniform, often standing in shadows and staring at the girls ominously. Millwood's A is much more spine-chilling than Rosewood's.

Original Sin has already hinted at the many societal issues the girls have to face. For example, Faran deals with racism and microaggression within the ballet company as a young Black girl. As a pregnant teen, Imogen faces the backlash and bullying that many young parents deal with.

A scene in the trailer also seems to tackle sexual assault when Tabby confronts a boy, who's dressed as a Smurf at a Halloween party, and states that what he did was assault. Hopefully, Original Sin addresses real-world issues respectfully and progressively, which isn't always seen in teen shows.

The new show is the first Pretty Little Liars spin-off to not feature any original characters. Ravenswood starred Caleb Rivers, Hanna's boyfriend, as he explored a curse in Ravenswood that connected strangers for generations. This spin-off only ran for one season.

The Perfectionists featured Alison DiLaurentis and Mona Vanderwaal as adults who work at a college in Beacon Heights, where a gruesome murder shook the small town. This spin-off also only ran for one season. Creating a Pretty Little Liars-adjacent show that doesn't rely on the original characters will hopefully break the bad spin-off curse.

In 1999, five girls attended a rave party where a young woman named Angela Waters supposedly took her own life. Over twenty years later, A is targeting the Liars because they are the daughters of the five girls at the party. The mysterious events surrounding Angela's death or disappearance has fueled A's vengeance.

Imogen, Tabby, Minnie, Faran, and Noa aren't even aware that their mothers were friends in high school, proving there's a lot they don't know about their parents. Now, A is making the girls pay for past and present secrets.

I. Marlene King developed Pretty Little Liars and its spin-offs. However, she has no involvement with Original Sin besides wishing the show well online. Roberto Aguirre-Sacasa, who produced Riverdale and Chilling Adventures of Sabrina, is running the new series.

Some fans worry about Original Sin's fate, as Riverdale started great but should've ended long before it did. Riverdale featured outrageous costumes, musical episodes, and strange plotlines that shouldn't have happened. Fans hope that Original Sin won't follow the same path as Aguirre-Sacasa's Riverdale and that the series serves a successful extension of Pretty Little Liars.
