Queen Elizabeth II had her own distinct style. She was almost always seen wearing her iconic gloves, holding one of her 200 handbags which was where she kept all the essentials fit for a Queen. At official events, the Queen was pictured reapplying her lipstick which she kept in her bag.

Sally Bedell Smith, author of Elizabeth the Queen: The Woman Behind the Throne, claimed that the late monarch kept her lipstick and mirror in her handbag.

In the book, she wrote: "At the end of a luncheon or a dinner, even a banquet set with silver gilt and antique porcelain, she has the somewhat outré habit of opening her bag, pulling out a compact and reapplying her lipstick."

She had a few favourite lipstick products, namely the Elizabeth Arden Moisturising Lipstick in the shades Pink Punch or Rose Petal. Elizabeth Arden held a Royal Warrant, which recognises companies that supply goods or services to the monarch. Since the passing of Her Majesty, Royal Warrants become void and companies have to reapply.

While the Queen had some favourite shades of lipstick, there was a colour made especially for her coronation in 1953. French cosmetics company, Clarins, made a rich red colour for the Queen to match the Robe of State worn at the coronation.

The Queen wanted to look her best in black and white photographs, on television, and in colour film, the Express reports. Elizabeth requested a colour that was "pink to red" or a "deep, ruby red with soft undertones". A similar colour is available from Clarins, called Joli Rouge, and it costs £23.

Throughout her reign, the Queen sported her favourite lipstick shades, as well as a number of other bright pinks, and reds. She was pictured reapplying her lipstick at the Highland Games in 2011, Commonwealth Games in 2014, and at the Windsor Horse Show 33 years into her reign in 1985.

The late monarch had a thing for specific shades of makeup and nail polish. She opted for Essie's £5.99 polish in the shade Ballet Slippers. It's thought that the Queen had an informal rule surrounding makeup and nail polish worn by members of the Royal Family.

She had a dislike of natural or brightly painted nails, and always chose a neutral varnish. When it came to makeup, she liked royals to keep it simple.
