WineFest on Bedford, set from 3 to 5:30 p.m. Oct. 8, features wine from more than 35 wineries and includes wine sampling, lawn games and live music with the Joe Corsello Quartet — fronted by Stamford's own Joe Corsello. Attendees must be 21 and older. Proper ID will be required for admission — a valid and current motor vehicle operator's license, current Passport or Global ID along with another form of photo ID, or an identity card issued by the state Department of Transportation. No pets or children younger than 21.

Tickets, which are on sale now, are limited. Cost is $30 until Sept. 23, $36 between Sept. 24 and Oct. 7 and $40 the day of the event if tickets are still available. Entry fee includes unlimited wine tastings and light snacks while supplies last.

Participating wineries include Barone Fini, Bogle, Cambria, Carmel Road, Clos de Los Siete, Crossings, Flat Top Hills, French Blue, Gazela, Harken, Intercept, Josh, Josh Reserve, Juggernaut, Kendall Jackson, Krug, Kylie Minogue, La Crema, Montecillo, Murphy Goode, Phantom, Rabble, Robert Hall, Sandeman Founders, Silk & Spice, Silver Palm, Tenuta de Arceno Classico, The Calling and more.

The Connecticut Ballet is holding open auditions to fill roles for children ages 4 to 16 in its upcoming production of "The Nutcracker" from 11 a.m. to 7:15 p.m. Sept. 18.

Pre-registration is required; auditions are by age and will take place at the Connecticut Ballet Center, 20 Acosta St. in Stamford.

Performances are set for Dec. 17 and Dec. 18 at The Palace Theatre in Stamford. Rehearsals will begin in mid-October.

The audition is open to all young dancers from the Fairfield County region; prior dance experience is helpful but not necessary for younger children. Children younger than 18 must be accompanied by a parent or guardian and should arrive 15 minutes before the audition start time. Adults should check in their children and then remain outside the building. Hair should be properly fastened and dance attire (including soft ballet slippers) is required. Masks are required inside the Connecticut Ballet Center.

Auditions times by age are: children ages 4-5, 11 to 11:45 a.m.; ages 5.5-6.5, noon to 12:45 p.m.; ages 6.5-7.5, 1:15 to 2 p.m.; ages 8-10, 2:30 to 3:45 p.m.; ages 10.5 to 12, 4:15 to 5:30 p.m.; ages 13-16, 6 to 7:15 p.m.

The traditional Stamford "Nutcracker" features guest stars from the American Ballet Theatre, New York City Ballet and Connecticut Ballet's professional corps de ballet. Since 1984, nearly 3,000 children have performed in the local production.

Some cast members will also be invited to perform with the company in Hartford on Dec. 10 and Dec. 11.

Runners participate in the 41st Darien Road Race. This year's race is on tap for Sept. 18.

Police will be closing several roads during the annual Darien Road Race, set to begin at 9 a.m. Sept. 18. The race, which draws about 500 runners, will start at Pear Tree Point Road Beach and end on Andrews Drive around 11 a.m. Runners will start to assemble at 8 a.m.

Impacted roads will be Pear Tree Point Road, Long Neck Point Road, Goodwives River Road, Sunswyck Road, Tory Hole Road, Delafield Island Road, Red Coat Pass, Old Kings Highway South, Locust Hill Road and Andrews Drive.

Motorists and residents in the area are advised to expect short-term delays and detours along the race route. Darien police personnel will be positioned along the route to facilitate the flow of traffic and the safety of the runners.

Boat launches from Pear Tree Beach will be suspended during race hours.
