If we had but one word to describe this posh all-inclusive boutique hotel, it would be “unforgettable.” The 21-and-over property is shiny and new, yes, but that’s just the beginning. The Green O is an escape from the city but not at the sacrifice of some of what we appreciate most about bustling metropolises, namely food and drink. Outdoor fireplaces encourage after-hours s’mores-making, and the vast sky above invites simultaneous star-gazing. Just 12 freestanding “hauses” make up the property, and each has jaw-dropping floor-to-ceiling windows that lend an indoor/outdoor feel to the spaces.
As tempting as it might be to stay inside and relish in the luxurious creature comforts of the accommodations, a visit to The Social Haus where theatrical live-fire cooking and craft cocktails await, is a worthy reason for venturing out and meeting the other guests.
Why We Chose It: Located in the heart of Big Sky but positioned just enough afield that forgetting about the rest of the world is an inevitable perk, this ranch offers adventure, relaxation, and reflection.

Lone Mountain Ranch has been delivering an authentic Montana experience for over 100 years, and returning guests are testament to the delightful property’s appeal. Composed of 26 cabins which were renovated in 2016, the ranch is also home to one of Big Sky’s best restaurants: Horn & Cantle. Amiable concierge staff is at the ready to help you plan a day exploring nearby Yellowstone National Park or discover the joys of fly-fishing.
If you’re visiting during the winter season, you don’t want to sleep on the Sleigh Ride Dinner. Be taken by horseback to a remote wooden cabin called the Saloon (even more remote than the rest of the property), where you’ll be wined, dined and entertained by song and dance as you get to know your tablemates. Then retreat to the private solitude of your own cabin where the only sounds you’ll hear is gently snow falling and or the summer river running. The beautiful thing about Montana is that even when you’re in the city centers, you’re still so close to vast swaths of nature. The Resort at Paws Up
Why We Chose It: The original luxury resort and ranch isn’t resting on its laurels in spite of some formidable competition throughout the state of Montana.

If Yellowstone is on the honeymoon agenda and you desire a certain home-grown yet classy aesthetic to your hotels, 1872 Inn is an unregrettable choice. Gilchrist & Soames Guild+Pepper bath amenities, along with towel bar warmers, and the always-appreciated private room for the loo are lovely touches for an inn that prides itself on providing guests with a real, Montana experience.
The rooms themselves, while a touch on the small side, are thoughtfully decorated and in line with what you’d expect from a boutique hotel, not a huge chain brand. Staff are eager to help, and you could do worse things than hang out in the comfortable lobby where coffee and light snacks can be enjoyed.
The Ranch at Rock Creek

If you haven’t gone glamping yet, there’s no place like The Ranch at Rock Creek to dive right in and experience the beauty and wonder traditional campers rave about but in a far more attractive manner. This is a dude ranch with all the fixings—the eschewing of a la carte pricing for a bevy of activities which can feel a bit like you’re getting nickel and dimed is a large part of what makes a stay at the ranch stand out. This intimacy is felt most acutely during ski season when dedicated staff are all too happy to help you with all your cumbersome gear, but outside of peak season, life in Big Sky slows down. Though 2022 will mark Montage’s first spring, summer, and fall, we’re confident that all its luxury trappings—from spacious rooms with Champagne-toast worthy views to the spa’s Valmont skincare offerings—will do wonders to delight honeymooners who’ve come to experience Big Sky Country.
