Judy Garland, center, stars as Dorothy in the 1939 film "The Wizard of Oz." The classic movie will be shown locally on June 5 and June 6 in honor of what would have been Garland's 100th birthday.
Actress Judy Garland would have turned 100 years old on June 10, 2022.
In her honor, FathomEvents is sponsoring showings of “The Wizard of Oz” across the country, including at local theaters. Garland died June 22, 1969.
FathomEvents said the shows will include a “rarely seen extended musical number.”
The shows are on Sunday, June 5, and Monday, June 6.
The classic film debuted in 1939 and featured Garland as Dorothy Gale, a Kansas farm girl dreaming of a land “somewhere over the rainbow.”
She and her dog, Toto, and her family’s house are transported by a tornado “to a bright and magical world unlike anything she has seen before. Unfortunately, she makes a mortal enemy of a wicked witch when the house falls on the hag’s sister.
Now, befriended by a scarecrow without a brain, a tin man with no heart and a cowardly lion -- and protected by a pair of enchanted ruby slippers -- Dorothy sets off along a yellow brick road for the Emerald City to beseech the all-powerful Wizard of Oz for his help to return home.”
